Christian Children’s Home of Ohio (CCHO), along with Encourage Foster Care and Encompass Christian Counseling, is a trauma-informed nonprofit social service organization serving children and adults with various levels of mental health needs. Founded in 1969, CCHO began as a children’s residential center to provide safety and treatment to youth who have experienced the trauma of abuse and neglect. Our organization has expanded to respond to additional community needs. Encourage Foster Care began in 1989. Community mental health counseling services began through Encompass Christian Counseling in 1993.
Our clinical team employs a trauma-effective approach to engage clients in a calm and compassionate way, eliciting safety and focusing on relationships and connection to resources. All staff participate in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) training, an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable families. Additional therapeutic services include psychiatric care, trauma therapy, and equine therapy in our onsite One Heart Stables. Through our broad service array, we help stabilize youth and families in our community, provide continuity of care and improve overall effectiveness of treatment.
Encompass therapists and case managers work as a team and with community partners from more than 15 locations (offices, churches, schools and a barn) throughout northeast Ohio to provide therapy, education and wrap-around care. Our trained and compassionate clinicians made up of more than 50 social workers, counselors, and case managers, care for clients and families of all ages and levels of need. With offices in Wooster, Ashland, Green, Mansfield, and Massillon, we reach more than 1,000 people per year with our therapeutic services. We also offer therapeutic services in six school districts in Northeast Ohio.
Our organization is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Families, licensed by Ohio Dept. of Job and Family Services, certified by Ohio Dept. of Mental Health, and a member of the Ohio Children’s Alliance.
Who We Are
OUR MISSION
To help families and individuals of all ages overcome mental, emotional, relational and substance use concerns through licensed, professional counseling.
OUR PURPOSE
To help more children and families experience their worth in Christ.
OUR PROMISE
To be the partner of choice, providing services that help transform lives, families, and communities.
OUR HEART
In Ezekiel 11:19, God’s promise to the brokenhearted is clear and encouraging: “I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh.”
The heart in our logo represents the radical transformation that only God can initiate. As a faith-based organization, we see each person as having unique strengths and worthy of respect and care. The heart in our logo reminds us that God is the One Who renews hearts and restores lives. As verse 20 says, “They shall be my people, and I will be their God.” Without Him, we are lost but with Him, we all have hope.

From more than 15 locations in north central Ohio (traditional offices, churches, schools and an equine-therapy barn), Encompass offers Christ-centered, therapeutic services to help clients overcome mental health and relationship challenges. Our compassionate, licensed clinicians work as a team and with community partners to provide counseling, education and wrap-around care for clients of all ages and levels of need.
Encourage recruits, trains and licenses foster families. Our mission is to connect and retain families who have the heart to foster by providing them with trauma-based training, licensing, resources, and the utmost support. Through faith, hope and prayers, together we can make lasting impacts in the lives of children from hard places.
Our Children’s Residential Center provides a safe structured environment to meet the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of children from all across Ohio who have been abused, neglected and traumatized by the people they should be able to trust most. Children ages 6-18 live in spacious cottages and are provided with therapeutic, social, spiritual and educational opportunities designed to aid the child with the healing process, model for them how a healthy family functions, develop coping and life skills, and introduce them to Jesus Christ.
