Linger in the psalms

The Psalms are found in the middle of the Old Testament in the Bible. This book of songs, hymns and poems are a good place to linger if you are in the middle of a tough season. If you are in the middle of anxiety, grief or conflict, the Psalms will give you hope and strength.

The 150 chapters are written with authentic emotion and remind us that God wants to hear our true heart. The words offer a place a rest and give guidance for a next right step.

God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!

Psalm 46:1-3, NLT

“Lord, I feel so vulnerable–to disease and injury, to financial loss, to political betrayal, to professional failure. But in this psalm you say that even earthquakes and mountains melting can’t take away my inheritance of infinite love, resurrection, new heavens and new earth. As I praise you for this, my anxiety ebbs. Thank you. Amen.”

Some Psalms are prayers crying out for help. Others offer thanks after a challenging time. Some are short while others are long. They are all meaningful. May you linger, find hope and renew your strength.
